The planned agenda also includes a visit to the City of Madrid, where the mayor of the city, Manuela Carmena, will give you the Gold Key of the Capital City.

In addition to these scheduled activities, economic-business activities will also be organized, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of Xi, who will be the first with this rank from that of his predecessor, Hu Jintao , in 2005, coincides with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In May 2017, the then President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, transmitted to Xi the invitation of Felipe VI to visit Spain.

This year, on the occasion of the anniversary, the two heads of state have sent congratulatory letters. In the letter sent by President Xi, which can be consulted on the website of the Chinese embassy in Spain, he expresses his desire to strengthen cooperation in various areas , promote the Integral Strategic Partnership between both countries and increase high-level exchanges.

Xi was briefly in Spain in November 2016, when she made a stopover of less than 24 hours in Gran Canaria during which she had a meeting with Vice President Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría.

The visit is preceded by a trip made last May by State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi . On that occasion, Wang was the first Chinese Foreign Minister to travel to Spain in 10 years and was received by the King, by the then Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, and by Minister Alfonso Dastis.
