The Costa del Sol exceeds the barrier of 23 million overnight stays in the first nine months

The Costa del Sol has closed the first nine months of the year with a slight drop of 0.4% in the number of travelers in tourist accommodation (hotels, tourist apartments, tourist camps and rural houses) with a total of 5,614,440 tourists , 21,897 less than in the same period of 2017, which was the best year in the historical series, as reflected in the latest Tourist Situation Bulletin prepared by Turismo Costa del Sol.

The Costa del Sol added until September a total of 23,059,963 overnight stays in tourist accommodation, with a minimum fall of 0.8% compared to last year, of which 5,836,438. they were of national tourists, with a growth of 1.5%, and 17,223,525 were made by international tourists, with a decrease of 1.5%.

From January to September, the markets that performed best on the Costa del Sol were French, with a total of 14.6% in travelers, Portugal with 12.2%, Denmark with 9.3%, Finland with 7.8% and Belgium with 3.5%.

In these first nine months of the year the positive evolution of hotel employment stands out, increasing 3.5% in relation to last year, to include 14,021 people hired in hotel establishments.

The president of Tourism Costa del Sol, Elias Bendodo, has indicated that “the Costa del Sol maintains its main tourism indicators almost intact compared to the same period last year that was the best in the history of the Costa del Sol”, and has stressed that “tourism continues to create employment which is good news for the province of Malaga.”

According to the data of entry of travelers by the Airport of Malaga-Costa del Sol, in the first nine months of the year has registered a growth of international visitors, being the United Kingdom the main market of entrances to the airport with a total of 2.310.159 travelers, followed by national, German and French traffic. Until September, the Malaga aerodrome has a total of 7,460,792 passengers, plus 0.9% in the accumulated of the year, which highlights the growth of 12.2% of domestic passengers and a drop of 0.7% in international passengers.
